My name is Kyle McClanahan and I am a 2015 graduate from Siena Heights University with a Bachelors of Business Administration with a major in Accounting. I am currently enrolled in the graduate program with Siena Heights University for Organizational Leadership, and my projected date of graduation is August 2017. During my educational endeavors I have participated in various team-oriented assignments, as well as taken the lead role for various assignments. I have proven my knowledge of accounting practices in both an educational setting and a professional setting through the completion of case study assignments and financial breakdowns for my employer.
The majority of my accounting experience has come within the educational confines of Monroe County Community College and Siena Heights University, however, I have also been fortunate enough to be employed through a temporary service on two different occasions to join payroll teams with two different employers, and to now be employed full-time in a payroll department which offers an opportunity for growth and promotion. I have served as a payroll administrator and currently serve as a payroll specialist. During my time in these positions I was able to process payrolls for anywhere between 250 and 1,300 employees per location. My current duties are growing to become knowledgeable of the technical aspect of the inner workings and behind the scenes information of payroll software and accounting units.
My goal and purpose for completing the graduate course in Organizational Leadership is to obtain a higher education while also gaining more college credits in order to sit for the Certified Public Accountants (C.P.A.) exam. Since deciding to major in accounting, I have always wanted to take this exam in order to further my career within the accounting field and to breakaway from the entry-level positions. Upon receiving 150 college level credits I am eligible to take this exam, and I plan to have this goal completed and passed before the end of 2017.
SWOT
Strengths- I am a motivated individual, desire to be challenged, a problem-solver, confident, and drive change
Weaknesses- I need to work on my patience, speaking skills, emotional intelligence, and become a well-rounded leader (self-actualizing leader)
Opportunities- Going for my masters degree opens the opportunity for me to gain a higher education which will allow me to gain more college credits to take the C.P.A. exam and further my career within the accounting field, working for an organization which often promotes from within, and having the room to grow in my department and field of study
Threats- Many jobs within the accounting field not only require a higher education and/or certification, but also require years of experience. Many entry level positions are available, but not all entry level accounting positions contribute to larger accounting roles, which could result in being overwhelmed upon gaining the required years within the field.
